Today I’m playing in a $10, 6 man 200 point cap, $5.5 HU $800K cap, and a $1, 6man 220 cap at Fantasy Sports Live. I never played in a contest where it seems salary is used to determine a players cost. I’ve always played in cap contests where players value where based on how they did in the past.
Using salary is really interesting since you can great some great deals that I assume will be there all season long. For example, I can buy Chris Paul for only $40,000 and Dwight Howard for only $70,000. Buying both of these players only costs about 1/8 of my $800K salary cap. But in a point cap contest, Howard cost 40 points which is 1/5 of my 200 point cap.
-Dwight Howards 2008 salary is almost $6.1 Million and his fantasy salary cap is $70K.
-Yao Ming’s 2008 salary is about $13.8 Million and his fantasy salary cap is $170K.
Obviously Howard is the easy pick since he’s $100K cheaper and has better stats. In a points caps things are tougher since Howard costs 40 points and Ming costs 35 points. I’ll most likely take Howard but his 40 point costs really takes a chunk out of the normal 200 point cap.
Here’s my team for my first $800K salary cap contest.
B. Davis
C. Paul
T. Parker
C. Butler
A. Jefferson
C. Boozer
D. Howard
Total Cost: $710,000

Navarro was a big reason I won my $5.5 heads up match on Saturday. I picked him up for 10 points and he ended up earning me 33 fantasy points! He was 5/8 from 3 point land and had 28 total points. I’m hoping he stays at 10 points but after his last few games theres a good chance his price will increase.
My only dissappoinment was A. Blatche who cost 15 points but only scored 13. I’ll still take him in the future though. He just had an off game.
I had an all time high score of 259 points which is huge in a salary cap contest. My highest score before was 258 but that was in a no cap where you just take the best players.

He just dominated the Raptors with 37 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, and 4 turnovers. This adds up to 64 fantasy points. His price just went up to 50 points at Fantasy Sports Live yet he still was a value play by outscoring his cost by 14 fantasy points. His last five games he is averaging around 60 fantasy points a game!
His price will probably be going up to 55 or 60 points soon. I’ll most likely have to keep taking him but its going be really hard to fill up my fantasy basketball team each night when one player eats up over 1/4 of my salary cap!

I’m only playing one contest today at Fantasy Sports Live. A 210 point cap, $5.5 heads up match. I said I would continue to take LeBron James as long as he cost 50 points or under. He went from costing 45 points to 50 points. I’m taking him today but I really had to find some value buys to afford him. My value buys for today are J. Carlos Navarro and A. Blatche.
J. Carlos Navarro only costs 10 points but lat time I took him he really screwed me. He played 10 minutes and only got me 3 fantasy points. He was averaging near 30 minutes a game so I don’t know why he only played for 10. Yesterday he had a big game putting up 24 fantasy points. I expect him to at least earn me 15 fantasy points tonight.
A. Blatche cost 15 points and has been putting up some nice numbers. In his last few games he has averaged around 30 fantasy points. Buying him today for only 15 points is a steal. Buying the previous two low cost players has allowed me to get Baron Davis, Lebron James, and Howard for today.

I’m in a $5, 6 man 200 point contest and a $1, 6 man 220 point contest. My value play of the day is J. Carlos Navarro who is selling for only 10 points. He’s been averaging 30 minutes a game for the last three games and putting up some solid numbers. Last three games he scored 28, 14, and 8 points. Just with his scoring you are getting good value. Check out his stats ESPN.
My team for the $5 contest is below:
B. Davis
J. Tinsley
J. Carlos Navarro
D. Nowitzki
C. Anthony
G. Hill
D. Howard
I’m feeling pretty good with this team.
